Greene County Woman Plans New Chevy After $30,000 Iowa Lottery Win

Grand Junction, Iowa, woman Brenda Kennedy won $30,000 on a scratch ticket and is now planning to shop for a new Chevy car or truck.

Brenda Kennedy of Grand Junction, Iowa, is looking forward to shopping for a new vehicle after winning a $30,000 prize on an Iowa Lottery scratch game.

Kennedy, who is from Greene County, claimed her prize on Monday at the Iowa Lottery’s main office in Clive. While she has not yet decided whether she wants a car or a truck, she already knows which brand she wants.

“I guess whatever sparks my mind, but it has to be Chevy!” Kennedy said.

Kennedy won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “$30,000 Crossword” scratch game after purchasing her winning ticket at Casey’s at 1131 Market St. in Gowrie. She scratched the ticket at a friend’s house.

The game requires players to complete words in a crossword-style puzzle using a given set of letters, with prizes increasing as more words are completed.

Kennedy initially thought she had won $100 after completing seven words. She then realised she had eight words for $300, followed by $3,000 and eventually the game’s $30,000 top prize.

“I said, ‘Nope! $30,000!'” Kennedy recalled.

She handed the ticket to her friend, who went through the completed words and double-checked the result before confirming that Kennedy had won the top prize.

For Kennedy, the moment was difficult to believe.

“It was like I had to pinch myself. I had to really pinch myself to think, ‘This is real!'” she said. “This has never happened before.”

Now, her $30,000 win has given Kennedy a very practical shopping decision to make: whether her next Chevy will be a car or a truck.
