Concord, North Carolina woman Christine Brown won a $519,318 jackpot and plans to pay bills, reduce her mortgage and bring her children for a visit.
Christine Brown of Concord, North Carolina, was finishing up work on Friday when a quick stop on her way home turned into a $519,318 jackpot win.
Brown bought a $5 Rockin’ Bingo Fast Play ticket at The Mills BP on Holden Avenue Southwest in Concord. At the time, the progressive jackpot stood at $1.03 million, with Brown receiving half of the jackpot because of the $5 ticket she purchased.
After playing, Brown took the ticket to the clerk to find out what she had won. The clerk scanned it and immediately told her the news.
“She said ‘You won the jackpot!’” Brown recalled.
Brown said the win still had not fully sunk in.
“It still hasn’t hit me yet,” she laughed.
Brown arrived at lottery headquarters on Wednesday to claim her prize. Following state and federal tax withholdings, she received $373,962.
With the money, Brown plans to take care of some practical priorities, including paying bills and putting money towards her mortgage. She also has a family visit in mind, with plans to bring her children down to visit.
For Brown, what started as a $5 purchase on the way home from work in Concord has now given her the opportunity to make those plans for her family.
