Montréal truck driver Gérald Côté won $3 million but says he has no plans to retire. He plans to restore a vintage car and buy a 1960s Corvette.
Gérald Côté, a truck driver from Montréal, Quebec, Canada, has become a millionaire after winning a $3 million grand prize, but he has no intention of retiring just yet.
Côté won one of the grand prizes in the 30X scratch game. He enjoys playing scratch games featuring multipliers, and after purchasing his winning ticket, he returned to the grocery store to have it validated.
When he checked the ticket on the self-serve terminal, he began seeing numbers appear on the screen. First it showed 3, then 30, then 300, until he realised there were far too many zeros.
Côté then went to the counter to have an attendant validate the ticket. When $3,000,000 appeared on the terminal screen, the entire store celebrated.
Despite the size of the prize, Côté says he is not planning to stop working. He enjoys driving for a living and intends to continue doing so.
The win will, however, allow him to pursue one of his other interests. Côté is a vintage car enthusiast and plans to begin a restoration project, including purchasing a 1960s Corvette with part of his winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Provigo at Place du Commerce in Île-des-Sœurs, Montréal. The retailer will receive a 1% commission of $30,000.
