Québec Man Thought He Won $1,000 Before Discovering His $1.09 Million Win

Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean resident Steeve Brisson thought he had won $1,000 before learning he had actually won $1,095,227.78 on the Loto-Québec gaming website.

Steeve Brisson, a resident of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Québec, initially thought he had won $1,000 when a message appeared while he was playing Powerbucks Blackjack on the Loto-Québec gaming website.

The actual prize was far greater: $1,095,227.78.

Brisson won the major progressive jackpot on August 16. However, it was not until the following morning, when he received a call from a Loto-Québec employee, that he realised the true size of his windfall.

When he later came to collect his prize, Brisson joked about just how difficult the amount was to comprehend.

“One million ninety-five thousand two hundred and twenty-seven dollars and seventy-eight cents!” he said. “I had a hard time wrapping my head around it. It’s a lot of numbers when you say it out loud!”

The Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean resident now has a clear plan for the money. The newly minted millionaire says he intends to invest his winnings for his retirement.
