Red Deer Courier Plans New Home and Real Estate Investments After $884,629 Win

Red Deer, Alberta, courier Boro Grubacic received $884,629.60 and plans to buy a new house, rent out his current home and invest the rest.

After three decades of driving the same routes for work, Boro Grubacic is looking at his future a little differently. The Red Deer, Alberta, resident has received $884,629.60 and already has plans to put the money towards a new home and real estate investments.

Grubacic works as a courier and has followed his daily route for 30 years. Part of that routine involves stopping in Stettler to pick up a newspaper and a ticket after dropping newspapers off for an older gentleman at his home.

It was during one of those familiar stops that Grubacic discovered something very different from his usual routine. When he saw the winning amount appear on screen, he realised he had received the $884,629.60 prize.

“This time, I saw the win and I thought, ‘Wow, I hit it!’” he said.

Grubacic shared the news with his wife and children that evening when they arrived home. While he admits that the reality of the amount has not completely sunk in yet, he already knows how he would like to use it.

“I’m planning to buy a new house and rent out my current one,” he explained. “I want to invest the rest of the money!”

Grubacic purchased the winning LIGHTNING LOTTO ticket at Stettler Gas Bar at 4821 62 Street in Stettler, Alberta.

His $884,629.60 prize came from matching all five numbers selected for the April 15 LIGHTNING LOTTO draw: 4, 5, 22, 23 and 40.

For Grubacic, the unexpected windfall has opened up plans that extend beyond the initial surprise. A new home, a rental property and further investment are now part of what he is considering as he adjusts to the news.
