Red Springs, North Carolina, woman Connie Locklear won a $130,000 Cash 5 jackpot using family birthday numbers and plans to finish renovating her bathrooms.
Connie Locklear of Red Springs, North Carolina, has a simple reason for sticking with the same numbers when she plays Cash 5: they are connected to her family.
Locklear uses birthdays belonging to herself, her child and her grandson when choosing her numbers. Although she considered changing them at one point, her daughter encouraged her to keep playing the same combination.
“She’s like, ‘You’d better keep playing them!'” Locklear said with a laugh.
Her persistence paid off when she bought a Cash 5 ticket through Online Play and matched all five white balls in the Sept. 1 drawing. The odds of matching all five numbers were 1 in 962,598.
Locklear arrived at lottery headquarters on Tuesday to claim her $130,000 jackpot. After state and federal tax withholdings, she received $93,613.
She already has a practical use in mind for the money. Locklear plans to use her winnings to finish renovating her bathrooms.
