A Rockford-area man won a $1 million top prize on his favourite Illinois scratch-off and plans to share some of the money with family.
A Rockford-area man is still coming to terms with a $1 million prize after winning on his favourite Illinois scratch-off, a game he has enjoyed playing for years.
The anonymous winner purchased the $25 $1,000,000 Crossword 50X ticket at Gas Depot at 4900 W. State St. in Rockford, Illinois. He scratched the ticket immediately inside the store and quickly realised something was different.
“I like to slowly scratch off the words to reveal the prizes—it’s my absolute favorite game,” he said. “When I saw I had won, I had to do a double take—I simply couldn’t believe it.”
The moment became even more intense as he tried to make sure what he was seeing was real. He recalled almost having a panic attack and thinking he might be seeing things.
Rather than leave the store wondering, he went straight back to the cashier and asked for the ticket to be scanned to confirm the result.
The scan confirmed that he had landed the game’s $1 million top prize.
The Rockford-area man’s plans for the money include helping his family, with part of the winnings set to be shared with them.
He is also considering a rather personal purchase. As someone who loves to drive, he said a performance car could be in his future.
“I love to drive, so a performance car could be in my future,” he said with a smile.
For now, the Rockford-area man is left with a $1 million prize, plans to share some of it with family and the possibility of adding a performance car to his future.
