Winston, Oregon, woman Jillian thought she won $40 before discovering her Scratch-it was actually worth $40,000. She and her partner plan to save most of it.
Jillian of Winston, Oregon, thought she had picked up another small win when she played a $5 High Roller Scratch-it. Instead, a later scan revealed she was holding the game’s $40,000 top prize.
Jillian occasionally buys Scratch-its and has picked up smaller wins in the past, but nothing particularly notable. When her partner convinced her to try the $5 High Roller game, she decided to give it a go.
After playing the ticket, Jillian believed she had won $40. Rather than getting rid of it, she held on to the ticket.
It was only later, when she scanned it, that she discovered the much bigger result: the ticket was worth $40,000.
The unexpected win has given Jillian and her partner plans for both the future and a little immediate enjoyment. They intend to put most of the money into savings, but before doing that, they plan to treat themselves to a resort and spa getaway.
What started as an occasional $5 purchase and what Jillian believed was a modest $40 win turned out to be a $40,000 surprise.
