Elizabeth City Man Calls His $100,000 Win a “Nice Bonus”

Elizabeth City, North Carolina, man Ronald Pippen Jr. won $100,000 and plans to use the money to pay some bills, calling it a “nice bonus.”

Ronald Pippen Jr. of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, received the same surprised response from both his wife and mother after sharing news of his unexpected $100,000 win.

Pippen purchased a $2 Million Vault ticket from Zoom In on South Hughes Boulevard in Elizabeth City. After discovering the prize, he sent a picture to his wife and mother to share the news.

Their reactions were remarkably similar.

“I sent a pic to my wife and mom and they both sent back the exact same text which said, ‘What???,’” Pippen said with a laugh.

Pippen described his own reaction as difficult to put into words.

“It’s hard to explain,” he said. “It was exciting.”

He travelled to lottery headquarters on Monday to claim his winnings. After required federal and state tax withholdings, Pippen received $72,016.

For Pippen, the money has a practical purpose. Rather than making elaborate plans, he intends to use the winnings to pay some bills.

“This is a nice bonus for us,” he said.
