Cochrane, Alberta couple Diane and Brian Low won $100,000 shortly after retiring and plan to invest in new equipment, help family and save.
Diane and Brian Low of Cochrane, Alberta, had only recently retired when they received an unexpected financial boost, winning $100,000 and a Free Play.
Brian had purchased their winning LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket during a grocery run, with the ticket later scanned by Diane using the Lotto Spot app. When she discovered the win, she said her hands immediately started shaking.
“I checked the numbers on the website to confirm, and I told my husband as soon as he got home!” Diane said.
The couple then sat down at their kitchen table to discuss what they wanted to do with the money.
“Once I learned about the win, we sat down at our table and talked about it,” Brian said. “We’re planning what to do with it and I think we’ve got it figured out.”
The Lows already have several purchases in mind. They are planning to buy a new computer, a new printer and a sewing machine, while also sharing some of the money with family and saving the remainder.
“We’re planning to purchase a new computer, a new printer, and a sewing machine,” Brian said. “We will share some with our family and save the rest!”
For Diane, the timing of the unexpected money is particularly notable. The couple had recently retired, making the $100,000 win a welcome development as they begin this new stage of their lives.
“We’re calmer than we expected to be about this win,” Diane said. “We just recently retired, so this came at the perfect time!”
The winning LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket was purchased at Save On Foods at 65 Bow Street in Cochrane. The couple won the $100,000 prize by matching the last six digits of the March 27 EXTRA draw, 2288500.
